Tai Chi unfolds movement as a sequence, transforming the ancient discipline into a contemporary sculptural choreography. Six figures progress through different postures, each capturing a distinct instant in the continuous flow of the practice. Together, they allow the viewer to perceive not simply a series of poses, but movement itself passing through time.
The repeated figure, with its rounded proportions and serene expression, brings warmth and gentle humour to the work. Arms open, bodies turn and weight shifts from one leg to another, while the turquoise surfaces contrast with the dark faces and hands. Despite their playful appearance, every gesture suggests concentration, balance and deliberate control.
Presented together, the six figures become almost like frames from a film. No single sculpture represents the complete action; it is the relationship between them that reveals the rhythm of Tai Chi. The empty spaces separating each body become part of that rhythm, inviting the eye to travel naturally from one movement to the next.
Within the Sports & Art collection, Tai Chi offers a different vision of physical performance — one in which achievement is not measured by speed, force or competition, but by the ability to unite body, mind, breath and movement.
Six moments, one continuous flow, the art of finding strength through balance.
